Dana DeKalb was active/lived in California. Dana DeKalb is known for narrative.
Dana DeKalb was born in Sumatra, Indonesia and raised overseas by her parents who were American expatriates working abroad. Her unusual upbringing is evident in her narrative paintings which portray the dream-like stories of strangers in a strange land. Her paintings often portray people engaged in impossible tasks such as teaching pigs to read or a surveyor standing in a wobbly boat. DeKalb's style is also influenced by her appreciation of early American primitive paintings as well as Arabic and Persian miniature paintings.
