Frederick Lee Schmidt


Frederick Lee Schmidt was born December 11, 1937 in Hays, Kansas.  He earned a BA at
the Univ. of Northern Colorado and a MFA at the Univ. of Iowa.  Pupil of Stuart Edie, Joe
Patrick, Howard Rogovin, and James Lechay.  Taught at Northwestern (IA) College, 1968-70, Western Carolina Univ. 1970-72, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State Univ., beginning in 1972.

 Exhibitions: Sioux City Annual, 1969; Des Moines, 1969; Benedicta Arts Center, 1971; 34th Semi-annual Southeastern Exhibition, 1972; and more.

Awards: Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Grant, 1972; Purchase award, Roanoke Area Artists Show, 1974. Collections: Northwestern (IA) College; Sioux City Art Center; Univ. of Iowa.
