Gerard Martin, Jr. was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula and is a painter and illustrator, who learned about art and painting from his artist mother. Martin's father was an avid sailor and fisherman.
Martin graduated in 1991 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and studied there under Dan McGaw and Richard Bunkle.
He currently lives in Salinas, California with his wife and two children. In addition to his artistic endeavors, he is a high school teacher.
Martin is a member of the Informalists, a group of six Monterey Peninsula plein-air painters dedicated to capturing the feeling and atmosphere of the Central California Coastal regions. Other artists in this group include Cyndra Bradford, Jeff Daniel Smith, Johnny Apodoca, Barry John Raybould and Richmond Woodson.
Memberships include the Carmel Art Association.
Martin was winner of the Emerging Artist Award presented by Art & Antiques magazine at the 2006 Carmel Art Festival. He was also named the Best Local Artist at this event.
He has exhibited his works at the Carmel Art Association Gallery, the Carmel Art Festival and other events around the Monterey Peninsula.
