Hugo Wilhelm Kauffmann, a genre painter, was born in 1844 in Hamburg am Chiemsee.
Hugo was the son of Hermann Kauffmann the Elder and the father of Hermann Kauffmann the Younger. Huga was a pupil of Martin Gensler and Günther Gensler in Hamburg from 1861 to 1863.
