Samuel Edmund Waller

Samuel Edmund Waller (1850 - 1903) was active/lived in United Kingdom, England.  Samuel Waller is known for Paintings of solders going to war, horses, lovers separated.

Samuel Waller was born on June 18, 1850.  He was a genre and historical painter and illustrator, in Gloucester.  He studied at Gloucester School of Art, and in the office of his father, an architect.  He learned to draw animals on his father's farm.

Samuel Waller entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1869.  In 1872, he toured in Ireland and published "Six Weeks in the Saddle".  In 1873, he joined the staff of "The Graphic". 

Starting in 1871, Waller exhibited at the Royal Academy and the R.O.I.  He married Mary L. Fowler, who exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy from 1877–1917 as Mrs Waller.

Samuel Waller died on 9 June, 1903 in London.  A version of "The Day of Reckoning", in watercolour, signed, 19 x 28in, was sold at Cottone Auctions, New York, on Saturday, March 27, 2010, Lot 171 ($22,000).  Another is in the National Trust collections at Phillips House, Dinton, Wiltshire.
