I purchased a D. Howard Hitchcock painting. Size: 12" by 9". There is no date on the painting. The painting is rather dark. The scene shows a man in a canoe w/ a sail mast at the beach at sunset.
Question: Did Mr. Hitchcock date all his paintings? This painting is not dated.
Also, how do I authenticate a painting? Any light you can share on my ?s will be much appreciated.

I have spent my life traveling in the world, Since I have found the Artist DHH I have began to collect his works. I feel that his paintings he has painted between 1880's/1910 are his best work, I now have collected several. They truely show how the early life in Hawaii has changed so much since then. I would love to share my thoughts with others if any persons want to share there stories, please feel free to contact me, I am open to discussion. Thanks Yurie

Some professionals can verify my great grandfather's signature on his oil paintings in Honolulu and San Fran. Sometimes the signature is pictured on-line during sales. He painted all sorts of scenes, including forests and even people (although less often), on all sorts of media like wood and surfboards including the interior lid of his paintbox currently on display at the new John Dominis Holt display at Academy of Arts in Honolulu. Some people confuse his son's paintings with D. Howard's. Howard Harvey Hitchcock painted with oils until the 80's and followed in his father's footsteps, although he started painting as a retirement hobby. He signed H H Hitchcock often and you can tell this difference by the light and brightness in Grandpa's style.

I have a painting of waikiki with a outrigger and hawaiian in the forefront with Diamond head in the background. It is signed by d. howard hitchcock and dated 1900. Would like to verify its authenticity. It was bought by my parents who lived in Honolulu in 1951.

I have a painting signed by D.Howard Hitchcock and dated Jun 21,1910. This painting is different from his usual paintings. It's a forest scene.

I have a coastal painting that is just signed "Hitchcock". It is an oil painting that is quite unique. I am wondering if D Howard Hitchcock ever signed his paintings "Hitchcock". Thanks, Mike

Has anyone ever known or noticed if DHH signed his name Howard Hitchcock without the D.? I have a painting that is signed thus and in other ways seems to fit. I would be interested in seeing a copy of his signature. Thank you, Susan
