My oil by JanPatricia Henshaw
I was a teenager at the tme and During the summer months in the early 70's i posed for Jan at the cottage studio in Tyringham, Ma for several paintings. He was a fascinating artist to watch and he taught me a lot about oil painting. Years later I visit Jan in New York to see if I could purchase one of the oils he had done of me..for my husband.. He said they all sold and he gave me one of his oils, approx 38x24 of a reclining nude, which is hanging in my bedroom. He gave me copies of two of his books & autographed them.. These are treasures and fond memories... I have always wondered who bought the oils of me or where they may be.. Like many of his models I had brown hair.. I am 60 now and continue to keep my hair brown and stay youthful

A very good friend of mine posed for Jan, in the mid to late 1970's. She has dark hair and she was a teenager at the time. I saw this painting once and there was no nudity. Jan painted it at the "Cottage" studio, in Tyringham, MA. It eventually got sold, in the late 70's or early 80's. Does anyone know the whereabouts of this painting? The last I heard, it was sold to a tourist, from New York.

During the summer of 1964 my parents and I came across an exhibit of Jan De Ruth's paintings at a gallery in Tyringham, MA. Subsequently, we contacted the artist in NY and I bought one of his paintings, "Seated Woman," by borrowing the money from my parents, as I had not yet had my first job. Mr. De Ruth offered to do my portrait, as a gift, and I posed for it at his studio/home in NY. It still hangs on the wall of my parents' home.
I have a large portfolio of his annual Christmas cards and invitations to his showings.
