Neith - 'war'
Mary Mosca Sklar (03/14/2009)
I was working in Coconut Grove for Sylvano Bingnon at Green Street when a lady appeared. They spoke and he called me over and asked if I'd like to see a painting. She unrolled this large beautiful canvas with seven faces. It changes every time you look at it - always something new, even now the colors even seem to change depending how you look at it. It is bold and lovely I have had it since 1991. I think I gave her all I had in my pocket to purchase it. She said she called it 'war'...I have carried it with me all these years and it is the only real Art I have owned or would. She is amazingly talented and thought provoking.

Trying to find a old neighbor
Edward Fowler (09/25/2008)
Hi Neith, It's your old neighbor Edward Fowler. I hav"nt seen you since I was in middle school on my 13th birthday. You painted me a wonderful picture; in which I still have. I place ot over my bed and think of you and Issa & Xochelle. I hope to hear from you.

Knowing Neith Nevelson
brih mendiola (10/10/2007)
I met Neith Nevelson in 1992 when I first came to live and work in Coconut Grove, Miami. I was selling cheap sunglasses at the time by the sidewalk in Main Highway. She would always find the time to chat with me. I made her laugh so many times. It was only around our third meeting that she mentioned about her works and later showed them to me. My first impression was "Oh my God, where have you been all my life?!" I bought two of her paintings not realizing that she was already a national treasure, although in my heart she has always been. Several friends have offered to buy her paintings through the years but I declined because I thought they were my most precious possessions not materially but more like spiritually. I lived in the Grove for fourteen years. And like Neith I have been through storms and hurricanes. I wake up every morning refreshed because the first thihg I see is Neith's priceless work of art.

Why I like Neith Nevelson's Art
Xavier Mensara (08/08/2006)
I'm surprised, and pleased, that Neith Nevelson has not given up her amazingly beautiful production of paintings. Personally, I have never held in such high esteem an artist as good as Neith Nevelson. I think that most of the problem Ms. Nevelson has undergone in the past ten years is her inability to overcome her grandmother's legacy and many have refused to even give her a chance on her own terms. Today's art is weird, and unimaginative. The same will never be said about Neith's art. In the end, this is what makes any piece of art, mediocre, good or great.

Neith Nevelson

I'm surprised at Neith Nevelson's longetivity in this business, and her continuous output of works. Yet, no matter how prolific she is, her paintings all have a fresh look to them. I guess this is something to consider when talking about her life.

Neith's work is very varied, including animals, and people in original form that often incorporate music. I have several of her pieces hanging and love them.

Neith Nevelson documentary
Jorge Reyes (06/01/2006)
I heard that back in the 1970's someone by the name of Elizabeth Leger made a documentary featuring Neith Nevelson while she lived in Florence, Italy. Has anyone heard about this documentary? Though I know it was done, I can't find any references to it.

Neith Nevelson

Your comments about Neith Nevelson are very true. She's an amazing artist. Someone I consider one of the greats! Unfortunately, many in the art-world have simply brushed Ms. Nevelson aside as insignificant, or, I should say, have gone out of her way to make sure that her art, her emergence as an artist, and her legacy is not considered as great as it is. Neith's art is a combination of many things, Cubism, Surrealism, Expressionism, etc. Ultimately, though, Neith's art is unique and it cannot be compared to anything else, or anyone else, not even her grandmother as it is often done. It is a sad statement of our artistic reality that the affront Neith has experienced has more to do with her association to the Nevelson name, not the merits of her art-work.

NEITH NEVELSON
ERNESTO (06/01/2006)
FROM THE FIRST TIME I MET HER APPROXIMATELY 10 YEARS AGO I FOUND HER TO BE A VERY PASSIONATE PERSON. REMARKABLE PAINTER WITH TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE THAT MANY DESIRE AND FEW HAVE. LOVE HER AS A PERSON, LOVE HER AS AN ARTIST. A PERSON WHO HAS NO EVIL, YOU CAN SEE THROUGH HER EYES HER HEART. EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT, WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING AT HER SHE HAS ALREADY READ YOU INSIDE OUT. AGAIN NOTHING BUT LOVE AND ONE OF THE BEST AROUND. YOU WON'T FIND HER AT ART SHOWS SHE IS TO GOOD.
