Poems re. William Standing
Colin Oishi (01/17/2013)
My wife's father died on Dec. 3, 2012. Just short of attaining age 95. Name Bill Redel. He worked until he was age 92. Long story about his life and adventures but he wrote several poems about a "Montana Bar" He often spoke about William Standing. The Montana Bar poem has been given a national award but the story that goes along with that poem would take up too much in writing. It would be great to one day, purchase one of his paintings and place the poem in the back. The poems were all written on a manual typewriter. Bill wrote many poems in his lifetime. We have about 30 or more of his poems. Your may email me if interested. You can also google Bill Redel or Willian G.Redel.

I grew up in Eastern Montana in 40's & 50's, A man who worked where I lived and had no apparent relatives died, and the county or state packed his things, there were quite a few Standing paintings, I don't know from there where they school-mates family had a dray service and shipped it off to ????at that time word was some of the art was of good value.

Both of my parents were close friends with William Standing
P.McHatton (09/06/2006)
My parents, both artists from Montana formed a close friendship with Mr.Standing sometime in the 30's or 40's. It was this friendship that planted seeds of love and respect for the Native peoples. As a child born soon after World War II, I grew up on stories about Mr. Standing. My father was given 3 oil paintings and 2 cartoon sketches. I have a letter addressed to my father by Wm.Standing; on the back of one oil painting is a sketch of a bus driver, possible the 1940's---this truly is a record in a day in the life of this wonderful artist.

My grandparents from Montana both native americans passed down one of William Standing's paintings to my mother then to myself. They owned a diner and often fed people who otherwise could not afford to eat. My grandfather loved fishing so to pay back them for the generosity to so many he painted my grandfather a picture of a stream with a bridge and a beautiful sky. To this day I can still remember my Grandpa saying that just over that bridge was the best fishin hole ever. It is painted with oil on some sort of wood. It's not canvas. Anyone know?

My grandfather (Harry Lovejoy) would frame his paintings and sell them in his photo studio. He gave one to my mother and one to my aunt. I got my mothers.
