Albert Hencke

Albert Hencke (1865 - 1936) was active/lived in New Jersey.  Albert Hencke is known for Marine and landscape painting, book illustration, pen and ink drawing.

Albert Hencke was one of the greats of American turn-of-the-century book illustration. He is also known for his paintings and pen-and-ink work done for many magazines of the day. His work ran the gamut from color plates for novels (some still in print today with Hencke's images) to more traditional paintings of landscapes.

Many of his illustrations of ladies in their finery set fashion trends of the era (in the same manner as Charles Dana Gibson's "Gibson Girl" did), but Hencke's scenes of children in playful reverie are probably the most collectible of all.
